The popular annual “Whimsy” art exhibit returns to the Whit! The seventh edition will open with a festive reception on Saturday, December 7, 5-8PM at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, MA. An After Party Concert by perennial favorites the Dust Bowl Faeries will follow at 8PM. This is a FREE event.
Artists showing their work will include Michael Carty, Misa Chappell, Ryder Cooley, and Katherine Haig.
Michael Carty is a painter living and working in downtown Pittsfield. A Northeastern University graduate, he holds degrees in Graphic Design, Photography, and Art History. His paintings reflect a union of his love for the Impressionists combined with his graffiti and graphic design background.
Misa Chappell creates images of the feminine divine using a variety of media. She was not formally trained as an artist but relies on intuition, curiosity, and experimentation. Her practice is daily and contemplative, frequently incorporating intricate patterns and vivid colors. Chappell earned an Art History degree from Columbia University in New York City, and currently works as the Curator for the Common Folk Artist Collective in North Adams.
Ryder Cooley is an interdisciplinary musician, artist and performer. Weaving together chimeric visions with songs and projected imagery, she creates cinematic performances, drawings, and installations. Cooley performs with Hazel, a disembodied taxidermy ram, and with her dark carnival band Dust Bowl Faeries.
Katherine Haig is an artist and leader also with the Common Folk Artist Collective in North Adams. She works in acrylics, watercolors, ink, and various other mixed mediums.
The show will continue through the Holiday season and January. It may be viewed during Whit gallery hours (Friday, 12-4PM and Saturday, 1-5PM), during performances, and by appointment.
